One of Florida's most desirable places to live is Plantation; a city in Broward County, famous for being the place where they filmed Caddyshack and There's Something About Mary, 2 Hollywood blockbusters that have stood the test of time since being released in the 1980s.

Broward County is located in the southern half of Florida so the climate here is understandably hot during summer and pleasantly warm during winter. Furthermore, with most of the city being just nine feet above sea level, it can become awfully wet and humid on most days of the year.

More than 85,000 people live in the city and if you include the surrounding residential metro areas, you will find a thriving populace of more than 5.5 million people. It is the city where the general headquarters of the world's most famous courier and parcel delivery company DHL are based.

The types of real estate in Plantation vary from simple town houses to condos but there are also a fair few new-construction complexes being planned. But strangely enough this is an area where as many as one in every ten homes is empty or unoccupied.

Plantation is a city that has grown since it became a popular place to settle during the early 1950s. In 1961 there was little more than 5,000 people living in the city but 20 years later in 1981 there were more than 50,000 that had moved in. Plantation took a major move forward in the late 1960s when Motorola opened a facility in the city and brought with it thousands of jobs.

But Plantation still provides a full spectrum of real estate and home options, from many one-bedroom apartments and small condos, to larger single-family homes on large lots where larger families tend to thrive. The neighborhoods are friendly, safe and crime levels are well below Florida averages.

The city has such a hot climate that just about every apartment block tends to have a luxury swimming pool available for residents to enjoy while living here. Surprisingly, the recreational facilities in Plantation are among the best in the state.

It is not difficult to find a home that is competitively priced or entry-level apartments with appealing price tags. Whatever your budget may be, you have the option of becoming a Plantation resident.
